Congratulations to Associate Professor Jo-Anne Ferreira – the 2017 AAEE Environmental Educator of the Year!
Professor Jo-Anne Ferreira is currently Deputy Head of School and Director, Teaching and Learning, in the School of Education at Southern Cross University. Prior to this she was convenor of the Master of Environment (Education for Sustainability) program within Griffith Sciences at Griffith University. She is an active member of the Australian Association for Environmental Education and a past convenor of the World Environmental Education Congress and immediate past editor of the Australian Journal of Environmental Education. Her research is in the sociology of education, with a special interest in post-structuralist theories of identity, embodiment and power, and environmental and sustainability education. Recent research has focused on systems-based change in teacher education and on the strategies and techniques utilised by environmental and sustainability educators to empower learners to become environmental citizens.
On a personal level, Jo ‘walks the talk’ through her daily decisions that include how she lives, what she eats, and what she drives. In her academic and professional spheres, she espouses the values that underpin environmental education – she empowers, supports, collaborates and critiques.
Jo-Anne was awarded at the AGM meeting held via Zoom Online on the 18th of November. Find out more about our AAEE Awards.
