Welcome to the Year of Indigenous Languages and the first issue of ozEEnews for 2019!
The United Nations declared 2019 as The Year of Indigenous Languages in order to raise awareness of these languages, not only to benefit the people who speak them, but also for others to appreciate the important contribution they make to our world’s rich cultural diversity (iyil2019.org).
In this issue we share stories of how Australia’s First People’s culture and language is used to enrich education and learning across the country. For more on how Aboriginal stories are embedded in our Australian landscapes, read our feature article on pages 3-4.
